I can’t decide what I love most about my oatmeal raisin lactation cookies recipe.
Maybe it's the fennel or the flax seed. Perhaps it's the raisins – I'm a sucker for a good oatmeal raisin cookie, and if they can double as an excellent breastfeeding cookie, all the better.
I went through a few lactation recipes before I landed on this oatmeal raisin lactation cookie recipe. It caters to the flavors that I love, it’s got a great, chewy texture, and it’s chock full of ingredients that will help you to produce more milk!
While I haven’t had too much trouble getting my breasts to produce milk, I have a number of close friends who have suffered in this way.

Oatmeal Raisin Lactation Cookie Recipe
2 ¼ Cups Fine Rolled Oats (don’t use Jumbo rolled oats). My favorite rolled oats are Great River organic milling rolled oats, which you can get here.
½ Cup Brown Sugar
1/2 - 1 Cup Organic Raisins - depending on how many you prefer.
1-2 Tablespoons Brewer’s Yeast. Because I know brewer’s yeast can be hard to come by, I’ll share what I use which is Anthony’s Brewer’s Yeast Powder which you can get here.
2 Tablespoons Ground Flax Seed or LSA
Good Pinch Salt
1 Tablespoon Fennel Seeds
1 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
1 Free-Range Egg
Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Prepare a baking tray with baking paper.
Place all ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix together.
Get an ice cream scoop and use it to portion out the mixture, rolling each scoop into a ball before placing evenly on the baking tray. Gently flatten the cookies with a fork before baking them for 12-14 minutes, until golden brown. Allow to cool!
You can either freeze these oatmeal raisin lactation cookies or keep them in an airtight container for up to a week.
If you want to get fancy with the flavor, you can try roasting the fennel seeds beforehand in a pan. Once they’ve been browned to your liking, you can crush them with a mortar and pestle before adding them to your mixture.
A lot of the ingredients in these oatmeal raisin lactation cookies are considered to be galactagogues.
This means that they’re ingredients that promote breastfeeding in humans and animals. Oats, brewer’s yeast, fennel and flax seed all fall into this category.
