The Definitive Metabolism Diet

Our metabolisms age as we do.

A metabolism diet might seem far-fetched, but it's simpler than you think.

As we age, our metabolisms begin to slow down. That's enough to send me spiraling into a pit of despair, especially looking at my stomach after having two kids. However, there is hope.

Certain foods can give our metabolism a boost when it's starting to fade. Through extensive research – for a friend, of course – I've found five amazing foods that will keep your metabolism fast and furious.

It's a beautiful mix of exotic and pantry staple. Don't worry, though, because I've also found where you can source the best versions. Easy peasy.

1. Matcha Tea

If you've shopped around green tea before, you'll know that there are incredible fat burning properties to this miracle concoction.

In fact, green tea is one of the most highly researched fat burning teas. Before I confuse you to the point of concern, let me explain that matcha is the powdered form of green tea.

Matcha is a great way to get your green tea fix in other ways, like smoothies. I also put a generous spoonful in my morning smoothie, and then the energy is slowly released while I race around after the kids all morning.

Matcha in your diet has been proven in various studies to boost your metabolism and make a significant impact on your overall health.

My personal favorite is Zen Spirit's Organic, culinary grade Matcha Green Tea Powder. It's harvested in Japan and comes from premium organic Matcha farms. You can't really get any better than this. Get your Matcha green tea fix here.

2. Green Coffee Extract

There is another part of the coffee plant that you'll now find yourself incredibly interested in. I'm not a huge coffee drinker myself, but I do love being resourceful with the entire product.

Green coffee extract is the unroasted part of the coffee plant. Studies have proven that this underrated part of the coffee plant can absorb glucose into your intestine.

There's another hidden gem to this flora. Green coffee extract also harbors an acid which is Chlorogenic. This can also help to increase weight loss.

It's worth noting, however, that once you roast your coffee beans, the acid disintegrates. So purely drinking more coffee isn't going to do a whole lot.

3. Yerba Mate

Yerba who?! Yerba Mate is a type of tea – it's okay, I had no idea what it was at first, either. The plant that is known by this name is used to make a drinkable concoction that can have positive effects on your metabolism and diet.

Yerba mate works on your hormone and blood sugar levels. It can really help to repress those regular cravings for the bad stuff. It's also been shown to have an anti-obesity effect as well.

This is because it has been shown to reduce levels of the leptin hormone. Leptin is primarily responsible for sending hunger signals throughout your body, so it works hard to suppress these signals.

Energence Teas makes a wonderful Yerba Mate loose leaf tea. This natural rainforest tea is made with the highest quality premium leaves. This is important – there are other brands out there that I've tried where you can taste dust and residue. There's none of that here.

4. Maca

Another term I wasn't too familiar with until my diet and metabolism told me it needed some help.

Maca is actually a vegetable native to Peru. It has been shown to help improve endurance. This metabolism booster is a great addition to your regular workouts.

There are studies out there that have shown Maca can reduce weight gain in post-menopausal women, too. It's a great source for that metabolism that seems to be fading as we speak.

Viva Naturals has the organic Maca you're looking for. It comes in a powder form, which I add to my smoothies in the morning along with my matcha tea. It's naturally gelatinized, which means that its absorption rate is super high.

5. Baobab

Sounds like something out of the Lion King. But hey, if it helps your metabolism, who's going to complain?!

Baobab is actually a super fruit native to Africa – there's the connection. It's so super, in fact, that it contains up to three times the amount of vitamin C you would typically find in an orange.

Baobab has a lot of health benefits, including helping keep your hair and nails primed and shiny. The reason why I love it so much is because it supports immune function. This is vital, especially on the occasion that I do get off my butt and work out.

Luckily, Micro Ingredients has understood your need for Baobab and whittled it down into an easy-to-take organic powder. I think I'm starting to create the smoothie of the year.

Micro Ingredients Baobab fruit powder is non-GMO and vegan-friendly. They also don't include any of the gross stuff like preservatives or colors. It's all natural, baby.

Get your awesome Baobab organic powder here, and turn your morning smoothie into the breakfast of champions.

There's nothing like finding a natural way to keep your body healthy and young. It can be hard when you're juggling kids and work to find the time to put into researching the right supplements to be taking.

That's why when I find them for myself, I can't help but share them. If it means just one mum out there has a little less work to do, my job is worth it. Having a metabolism boosting diet has been incredibly helpful for my post-baby bod.

If you're daring enough to try more exotic, nutritious foods, check out my blog post on eating insects. My kids love them.
